Research Scientist, Bosch Research and Technology Center
Emily Ruppel is the sustainability area chair at the Carnegie Bosch Institute (CBI) and a staff research scientist at Bosch Research and Technology Center in Pittsburgh. She defined CBI's sustainability focus and serves as a mentor to connect CBI fellows to sustainability related topics with Bosch and across CMU's campus.
Ruppel joined Bosch Research in 2022 after completing her Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering at Carnegie Mellon University with a focus on hardware and software design for ultra-low energy sensing devices. Since joining Bosch, her work has focused on defining computer systems and applications for distributed embedded systems across Bosch's wide portfolio. The approaches range from low-level program isolation techniques for automotive software to multimodal, agentic AI for optimizing factory automation systems. Her work has been published in top-tier computer systems conferences, including ASPLOS, MICRO, PLDI and RTAS.
