Jorge Guajardo Merchan

Dr. Jorge Guajardo Merchan is a senior principal scientist in the Secure and Robust Sensing AI and Reasoning Department at the Robert Bosch Research and Technology Center in Pittsburgh, USA, where he leads research on security, privacy, and AI for Bosch Research North America. Between 2015 and 2025, he led the security and privacy research group at Bosch RTC, earning two global corporate research inventor awards and one North American inventor award, among other accomplishments.

Before joining Bosch, Merchan was a senior scientist at Philips Research in The Netherlands, where he performed fundamental work in the development of SRAM Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) that led to the spin-off company Intrinsic ID. He has authored over 50 scientific publications in refereed conferences and journals, holds over 40 issued patents, and served as a program committee member for premier security venues such as CHES, HOST, and DAC. In 2019, he served as the program co-chair of the IACR Cryptographic Hardware and Embedded Systems (CHES) Conference. Between 2023 and 2025, he founded and managed the incident response (CERT) team for Bosch NA while also serving as an associate editor of the Journal of Cryptographic Engineering. 

Merchan holds a B.Sc. in physics and electrical engineering and an M.S. in electrical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and information sciences from the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany.
